HISTORY OF BUSINESS

In 2008, Adam Nichols started learning the mower business while earning a management and business degree at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. It started out as a hobby, but then his passion for the mower business grew.

In 2012, Nichols and his wife looked at the market and realized that there was not a low-priced leader in the used mower space. Most dealerships have high overhead costs, which are then passed on to you, the consumer, in the form of overpriced mowers, Nichols said. The couple started GSA Equipment to help homeowners and commercial lawn specialists get quality used equipment at prices you cannot find anywhere else.

“We sell and specialize in pre-owned commercial zero turn mowers and walk behinds. We have a good selection of lawn and garden tractors as well,” said Nichols. “We get a wide variety of equipment ranging in years, hours, sizes, and brands. We will continue to offer our products at reasonable prices, and we look forward to working with you.”

In 2016 GSA Equipment also started selling new lawn equipment and owner Adam Nichols moved to a different site to help facilitate this latest venture for his business that has been serving the Massillon area since 2012.

GSA Equipment is now located at 50 31^st S.W., Barberton, Ohio, 44203. The phone number for the business will remain 330-825-2307. This new facility gave GSA a great location, with lots of room for new and used lawn equipment, as well as a full-service repair, maintenance and parts area. Additional parking was added to accommodate the growing following of customers.

In 2018, Nichols purchased and broke ground on a lot directly beside the Barberton facility to make room for an even bigger space for growing inventory demand. At any given time there are nearly one hundred used pieces of equipment making GSA Equipment one of, if not the biggest used mower dealer in the country.

Summer hours for the business will be Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Winter hours are weekdays , 9 a.m to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHAT PRODUCTS AND NEW SERVICES TO LOOK FOR

Current new lawn equipment now being sold includes Scag, Ferris, Wright, Exmark, and Big Dog mowers. New Echo hand-held lawn equipment is also on hand such as weed eaters, leaf blowers, and chain saws.

A full-service repair and parts department is also at the Barberton location. Minor and major repairs can be done by staff members, who bring a lot of experience to their jobs. In addition, if someone is just interested in getting their equipment serviced and ready for the summer months of mowing and landscaping—GSA is the place to visit.

WELCOME TO NEW EMPLOYEES

Jim Reeves is being welcomed as the new general manager at GSA Equipment. Jim brings a wealth of knowledge to the job, as he has also been the store manager at Beltz Lawn and Garden Service.

Internet sales manager Joe Scott joined in 2019. He was a parts manager, and previous store manager of a John Deere dealership, where he worked for nearly 10 years. Joe handles all online ads, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, as well as this website.

Rachel Adams joined the staff in 2021 as full time parts manager. She has several years in this industry, gaining experience at other mower dealerships in the area. She also is heavily involved with running the service department.

Dan Adams is the service manager. John Kelly and Scott Tilbert along with Dan are the full time technicians. The three are certified in multiple lawn and garden certifications, keeping up monthly with new training courses.

Nichols said he is excited to be able to work with individuals caring for their home lawns, as well as with business owners doing landscaping in the area. Pick-up and delivery of items is also a part of the services offered at the business.
